(these rules aren't really different than before I just am trying to simplify them for future members as we still have issues with people not reading the rulebook. Please try to read at least the bold/italicized/underlined writing.)
1. No prejudice against race, sexuality, gender, etc can be expressed here, this includes jokes and use of slurs or opinions/remarks.
2. We do not allow highly NSFW content, discussion of personal details in one's sex life, encouraging talk of drug use, jokes about any kind of abuse, revelation of deep personal details/openly venting and ranting outside of the vent channel, or political statements.
3. If staff find you are too immature for the RP they can kick you to avoid further conflict. Maturity is watched and measured by staff based on the following: ability to avoid conflict, ability to avoid rude or unnecessary comments, ability to handle critique by staff if you break a rule or need help with your roleplaying, ability to avoid passive aggressive tendencies, ability to read and follow our rules and information, ability to leave in character happenings/matters in character unless they actually break a rule (not taking things too seriously or OOC), and ability to simply listen to staff members. One or more demonstrated to a poor degree can result in ban or at least a kick.
4. No mate or attention begging. If all you do is role play about your character crying and being lonely or having a crush, you could be asked to leave. Your character shouldn't solely be based on being sad or needing love. This also goes for OOC statements and comments, particularly if they make another person uncomfortable.
5. Read information or be ready to RP. If you're not going to learn about your pack and their lore through reading about them, then you should at least be willing to engage in RP with other people to gain lore on them. No one wants to constantly answer questions out of character when you can easily read the site or RP with other characters.
6. Theft isn't tolerated; do not steal characters, art, don't use photos if the original poster has specifically said to leave it alone, and don't post art or lineart without credit to the artist. "Credit to original creator" is not proper credit, and posts without credits will be deemed theft and removed.
7. Please write grammatically correct and semi-lengthy posts to the best of your abilities. Add detail and try to avoid one or two sentence posts, lazy days happen but they shouldn't be constant as RP sessions should flow like a book. If you have trouble with this, staff may provide you with kind tips given to you in private. Everyone must eventually meet a decent level of literacy if not at first, so if you don't think you need to improve or dislike being given these tips, you may want to find another RP!
8. Use marks of continuation and completion when RPing, -c- meaning continuing in the next post, -d- meaning done, or other marks like >>, --, <<, that sort of thing.
9. We use and follow post order so everyone gets equal opportunity to post. Before RPing, try to establish who is going in what order, you can make note of it in your bio to refer to during the RP session. This should stop post-cutting, which is also not allowed. Always ask about post order before hopping in.
10. If engaging in a fight in the RP, you should only be using the fighting style of aiming and attempting; i.e max tried to bite at her ear, if he landed the hit he'd pull and try to rip it, rather than the not allowed 'auto-hit' style which would be written like max bit at her ear and tried to tear it off. All hits should be attempts with opportunity for the person to react. Don't load your post with four different moves, keep it to two, and don't dodge everything especially if your character is hefty and large. Just fight fairly, don't be annoying about it!
11. Staff reserve the right to intervene and try to counsel issues that occur publicly in the RP or in our map, but they will not babysit two users. If you want a matter private, keep it out of the RP.
12. Don't RP in places you shouldn't, like the secret cave, in another packs camp, or even in another territory without asking permission.
13. You may not create situations, conflicts, or create plot-changing things in your RP sessions or posts without permission from staff.
14. You are allowed unlimited characters BUT here are our official character guidelines!:
- all characters should be submitted to character-approval-center in the discord, except your first character that you applied with which would have already gotten approved by staff. See pinned messages under the approval center on information for future character approvals.
- Characters should be completely realistic looking with very few exceptions allowed; we do allow any eye color and for markings to vary (nothing tattoo or perfect like, but they can be a little more unique), but pelt colors are always required to be a realistic shade.
- No diagnosed mental disorders or mental disabilities; you can RP out symptoms but we aren't going to go around calling dogs psychotic or diagnosing our characters, it's too much of a slippery slope and mental disorders are RP'd out too poorly by most.
- Because we don't want to be constricting, any dog breed is allowed, but you should keep two things in mind: one, play their breed. If a dog has fur that tends to mat, then they may need help plucking out mats, it could be painful or slow them down. If a dog comes from a breed with bad breathing problems like a pug, then they may need breaks and have issues with running. Second, for the sake of realism, try not to load yourself up with only rare breeds; the most common breeds found in New Mexico that you should try to have is red heelers, labs, pitbulls, retrievers, german shepherds, and chihuahuas.
- Characters may have accessories if they were given to them by an Upwalker (human) or they have some sort of logical attachment to it. No swords or emo bang items, though. Remember, El Estrago doesn't allow dogs to keep collars and such, for those wishing to have accessories and also be an Estrago, the pack will take it off your character.
- characters age at a rate of 1 day in real life is 3 in game. Pups and moms may have time skips. RP wide time skips will be posted about on the discord. Simple as that.
- you are allowed only one lobo in Red Ridge but you must have a normal dog first.
- you are allowed only one loner, and they must have a valid reason for being a loner; being exiled from either pack is a viable option. Most dogs wouldn't choose to be a loner due to the harsh and dangerous life they lead and how easy it would be to just join a pack, so loners are rare and should have decent reasoning. You should ask before RPing a loner stirring trouble with others. You must have a normal pack dog first or have your loner soon join a pack.
- you are allowed only one coyote, and you must ask before they interact with other packs. Must have a normal dog first.
- you can have one "half-breed" (half wolf or half coyote) but should have a normal dog character first. Keep in mind Los Sabuesos allows but distrusts half-breeds.
- you got that? one red ridge wolf/lobo, one loner, and one half-breed if you have a normal dog first. More can be gained if you adopt them through an open character adoption. Any other characters should be normal ol' dogs in either pack, they still must be approved in the approval center.
- you may not have more than two characters related to each other to avoid attention seeking.
- Just as they must appear mostly realistic, their backstory should too. You don't need to go in depth with backstory but there shouldn't be dogs from other dimensions, latin pack origins, etc. Put in a bit of research, have a reasonable upbringing or backstory. A good option for most people is simply saying their character came from one of the nearby areas: Jemez Springs, a mountain town a half hour drive away from the RP location. Albuquerque, a large city with neighborhoods an hour drive away from the RP location. Corrales, a farming and village-like area inside/right by Albuquerque, an hour drive away from where the RP takes place. The stories of the pack/s do travel a ways and your character could come from an entirely different state or have been lost on a road trip, escaped from a dog fighting ring or puppy mill, imported from another country and then ran away, or they're simply packborn. Infinite possibilities to have a realistic backstory, if you choose to go into it, keep it plausible!
- characters aren't free of consequence here. If your pup runs away, they can be attacked by a moderator's cougar character and killed. If your character outright speaks against their leader in front of everyone, they can be AT LEAST injured (these are dominance and survival driven dogs, y'all). Characters can be challenged and flanked if they treat their peers poorly, too. We will always try to avoid hurting characters because it's not fun all the time, but if you don't want them hurt, then they should act in a realistic manner that would keep them safe.
- you may have unlimited characters taken away if you constantly are making unrealistic characters or not having them approved first, ignoring rules, trying to be sneaky by having multiple lobos/coyotes, etc.
15. If you see something then say something. Bring it up to a staff member with screenshots of the happening and a screenshot of the person's info box in game (the box that comes up when you double click their character.) There isn't too much staff can do with just word of mouth.
